Most hams own a handheld two-meter transceiver (HT) with the so called rubber duck antenna. If you’ve never tested that rubber duck with a field strength meter, you may be surprised to find how little your HT radio is actually getting out. The rubber duck is only about 25% efficient. I am often asked how much gain my GP-2 antenna has. The answer is none. It is a unity gain antenna. When used on the HT it appears to have 6DB gain plus another 3 DB because the GP-2 mounted on a pole well above your head. Makes your HT's 1 watt output sound like a 5-8 watt radio. It's Portable The six parts that make up the GP-2 weigh less than a pound, and are shipped and stored in a 3" x 20" square mailing tube. There is plenty of room in the tube to also hold a convenient length of RG-58A coaxial cable. The stored antenna and coax pack easily in your emergency grab-n-go kit. It's Durable The GP-2 comes with the standard SO-239 connector attached to a heavy-gauge aluminum mounting bracket. A durable black Delrin® insulator protects the connector and provides a sturdy mounting point for the vertical element. The five radiating elements are made from 6061-T aluminum. All the other GP-2 hardware is stainless steel, so the GP-2 is durable enough to withstand the outdoor elements at your home station, but lightweight enough for temporary duty to extend the range of your HT at a special or emergency event. Power rating 250 watts. VSWR less than 1.5 to 1. Frequency 144-148 MHz. It's Quick Assembly of the GP-2 is accomplished in less than 60 seconds. All the radiating elements are identical, so there is no chance for incorrect assembly. Each element is simply hand-threaded onto the mounting bracket. The mast mount is a standard 2-inch pipe clamp that can be tightened with a slot screwdriver or 5/16" nut driver. The clamp will fit snugly around a simple painter-pole (typically 7/8" diameter) or other antenna mast up to 2" diameter. The SO-239 connector accepts the standard PL-259 UHF coax connector Order Information
